Beginning the Collection Phase

One of the first steps in the Restore & Reboot pilot phase has been gathering older and unused electronics from friends, family, and available storage spaces.

During this stage, we are learning how many different types of devices and accessories can accumulate over time, including:

  • older monitors

  • cables and adapters

  • keyboards and peripherals

  • networking equipment

  • packaging materials

  • miscellaneous electronic accessories

Some devices may still work, while others may only be useful for learning, parts, or responsible recycling.

This early collection process is helping us better understand:

  • how electronics are stored over long periods of time

  • the condition of older devices

  • common organizational challenges

  • the importance of safe handling and sorting procedures

As part of the pilot development phase, we are intentionally starting small and focusing on learning before attempting larger-scale refurbishment efforts.

This stage has also reinforced the importance of creating organized workflows and designated spaces for intake, inspection, and documentation.
